2006 - a year of growth for HFHMC
Home building milestones...
- Ten homes under construction during the year.
- Five new homes started - a record for HFHMC.
- Seven new homes completed and sold to Family Partners – also a record for HFHMC.
- In December, the Powell family became owners of the 42nd home built by HFHMC since 1989.
- Repairs completed on five homes belonging to elderly and/or disabled members of the community.
Families continue to benefit from partnering with HFHMC...
- Seven families moved into their new homes.
- As a result, nineteen people moved from substandard housing into affordable, energy efficient homes in which they will build equity as they pay their zero interest mortgages over the next 20 years.
- A Habitat homeowner paid off their mortgage, bringing the total owning their homes free and clear to five.
- Unfortunately, for the first time in its history, HFHMC had to foreclose on a home due to non-payment of the mortgage obligation.
Habitat ReStore had a successful year...
- Beginning in the fall of 2005, this 5,000 sq. ft. retail operation began accepting donated building materials as well as a variety of other items and offering them to the public for resale.
- In 2006, its first full year of operation, the ReStore produced income of $62,000 to support HFHMC’s building activities.
- Two salvage operations, coupled with regular donations of items from remodeling projects, and other materials donations resulted in a significant amount of useful materials diverted from local landfills.
Looking forward to 2007...
- Due to a generous gift in 2006, HFHMC will be able to pay off the mortgage on its warehouse and office complex.
- HFHMC will receive a HUD grant, which will be used toward Phase I of development of new infrastructure for the Foster Road property.
- The ReStore operation should grow as it enters its second full year.
